Course Overview

Diaphragmatic Breathing (DB) is a preventative technique and early intervention for stress, anxiety, depression, sleep disorders, pain & trauma. Psychoneuroimmunology is mind-body science that supports DB as a treatment option for chronic conditions. This workshop is ideal for health care providers working with people who experience stress-related or chronic conditions such as anxiety, depression, trauma or pain.

This unique 3 hour interactive workshop includes:

  • Diaphragmatic Breathing (DB) as an efficacious technique to help clients cope better with life challenges. This practical workshop demonstrates psychological and physical benefits for children, students, adults and the aged
  • Current evidence in Psychoneuroimmunology that supports DB for stress-related conditions such as anxiety and pain. State-of-the-art research is explained in basic concepts
  • Practical and effective ways to develop proficiency in using DB with clients. This unique workshop offers a simple and evidence-based intervention to add to your professional skill set and extend your expertise
  • Practical and effective ways to develop your own proficiency in practicing DB. Learn how to regularly include DB for self-care and to improve your mental and physical health

Judy Lovas, Ph.D, Dip Ed

Dr Judy Lovas is Australia’s expert in Relaxation Therapy and presents internationally. With up-to-date knowledge, passion and humour, Judy teaches evidence-based relaxation skills for mental health and physical wellbeing. She expertly explains leading evidence, demonstrates how to practice relaxation regularly and describes how to broaden professional expertise with clients who experience stress. Judy teaches at the Faculty of Medicine and Health, University of Sydney, Australian Association of Social Workers, Nature Care College and has produced online short courses and webinars. As an international speaker, Judy advocates relaxation therapy to medical and health professionals.
