The Profound Effects of Child Sexual Abuse on Self-Perception and Personality Development, and the Art of Tailored Intervention

Overview

More recent and advanced models in treating sexual abuse are moving away from the traditional approaches that focus on individual symptom management, but rather incorporate a multidimensional perspective and address the complex needs of survivors. While traditional approaches often focus on addressing immediate symptoms, advanced models recognize the long-term impact of sexual abuse on multiple domains, including self-perception, relationships, and overall well-being. They emphasize a holistic approach that incorporates trauma-informed therapies and an integrative approach to empowering survivors. This presentation will explore factors that influence the impact of child sexual abuse. Factors explored include the grooming process, age of the victim, nature of their relationship with the abuser, and a variety of other considerations. The discussion will also examine treatment modalities and ways in which clinicians may tailor treatment approaches. Through an exploration of these topics, attendees will gain a comprehensive understanding of the complex dynamics of sexual abuse and the crucial role of customized therapeutic interventions in facilitating recovery.
