Should I be calling someone

Hi there.

A close friend told me that she wishes she were dead.  I knew enough to ask her if she had a plan (she said no) but she took awhile to answer the question and she's going through a really hard time.  I believe her but I'm worried, especially since she said she doesn't have a plan "right now." Should I ask or do anything else?

Hi. I can hear the stress you are going through in regards to your friend. Your friend is lucky to have you on their side as this question shows you care. So good for you for reaching out!! I'm not a professional but I have been in some form of therapy for decades. That said, if you believe your friend I don't think you should pressure them but constantly asking if they will harm themselves. What I think you SHOULD do is let your friend know, in very clear and open language that they are important to you and that you have their back. That they can come to you for a non-judgemental conversation. Everyone needs to know someone is there for them Especially if they are going through a hard time. Again, with THAT said if you feel your friend isn't being honest about their intent, and you know they won't seek out help, you should contact someone that can help them. Their parent, Rabbi, Rebbitzen etc. Trust your friend. But trust yourself and your instincts as well.
