Dr. Peryl Agishtein is a NYS licensed clinical psychologist. She holds a Ph.D. from the CUNY Graduate Center in clinical psychology with a specialization in neuropsychology. After earning her degree, Dr. Agishtein completed postdoctoral fellowships at Columbia/ NY Presbyterian Hospital and at CAPs, one of the largest clinics in the world that caters to Orthodox Jews. She went on to act as the founding director of a testing department within CAPs, as well as the founding director of a new branch of an anxiety center. After moving to Long Island 5 years ago, Dr. Agishtein worked in St. Charles Hospital as a pediatric neuropsychologist in the inpatient units and outpatient clinic. For the past 6 years, Dr. Agishtein also maintained Lifespan Neuropsychology as a private practice based in NY, where she provides private neuropsychological evaluations and therapy as well as didactics and supervision for neuropsychologists who aspire to provide culturally sensitive and useful assessment within the Orthodox Jewish community.
Dr. Agishtein's specialties and training are in the areas of both neuropsychological assessment and clinical therapy, which allows her to integrate dual perspectives into her therapy as well as her evaluation services. One of Dr. Agishtein’s main clinical specialties is providing couples therapy using the model of Emotion Focused Couples Therapy. This collaborative, goal-oriented treatment is evidence-based (with statistics showing efficacy rates of 80% or more) and is guided by attachment theory, which is Dr. Agishtein’s research expertise. Dr. Agishtein’s second clinical specialty is using cognitive behavioral therapy and related models (including exposure/ response prevention, Habit Reversal Training, and mindfulness techniques) to treat depression, anxiety, and anxiety-related disorders (such as phobias, OCD, tics, and panic attacks). Finally, Dr. Agishtein is able to utilize her neuropsychological expertise to provide a unique consultation service in cases where children do not need a full neuropsychological evaluation but do need help with diagnosis and treatment recommendations.
Dr. Agishtein is currently practicing remotely via Zoom. She sees adults and adolescents who need counseling to treat depression, anxiety, and relationship issues. She also provides diagnostic and treatment guidance consultations for children. See Dr. Agishtein's website for more information: www.lifespanneuropsych.com.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a form of psychotherapy that encourages individuals to accept their thoughts, feelings, and experiences without judgment and to use them as tools to help them to make changes in their lives that are consistent with their values. It is based on the idea that by changing the way we think about our inner experiences, we can reduce emotional distress and increase our sense of well-being.
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a type of psychotherapy that focuses on how one's thoughts, feelings and behaviors are connected and can be changed. It is based on the idea that how we think (cognition) and how we feel (emotion) can influence how we behave. CBT helps people identify and challenge distorted thinking and replace it with more balanced thinking, leading to improved mood and behavior. ‘Homework’, usually containing practical writing exercises, is often completed by the client between sessions to reinforce the therapy. Examples of tools that practitioners often use are journaling, challenging beliefs, and mindfulness.
Emotion-Focused TherapyEmotion-focused therapy (EFT) is a type of psychotherapy that is based on the idea that emotions play a key role in a person’s mental health. EFT focuses on helping people to identify, accept, and manage their emotions in a healthy and productive way. The goal of EFT is to help people identify and express their emotions, understand how those emotions impact their behavior, and learn how to manage their emotions in a way that is adaptive and healthy. EFT is a research-based approach to psychotherapy that has been found to be effective in helping people manage a variety of mental health conditions. It has been used successfully in the treatment of individuals, couples, and families, as well as with groups. EFT is particularly beneficial for people who struggle with emotional regulation, mood disorders, anxiety, trauma, and relationship issues.
