ABOUT THE THERAPIST

I guide couples and families through (re)building trust and communication, while helping individuals overcome behavioral addictions (affairs, porn, internet, gaming etc), and panic disorder, with compassion and clarity.

My Approach to Helping:

At the core of my practice is a commitment to using evidence-based therapeutic modalities to support individuals, couples, and families. Below, you’ll find an overview of some (certainly far from all) of the approaches and techniques I use, each designed to address a variety of challenges and create meaningful growth.

The Gottman Method is a research-based approach designed to strengthen relationships by improving communication, managing conflict, and building deeper connections. Key Techniques: * Identifying and addressing criticism, contempt, defensiveness, and stonewalling. * Developing "Love Maps" to understand your partner’s world. * Creating shared meaning and areas of connection. Ideal For: Couples seeking to enhance their relationship to overcome challenges or to deepen their bond.

Internal Family Systems (IFS): IFS helps individuals address internal conflicts by understanding the "parts" within themselves, forging self-compassion and resolution. Key Techniques: * Exploring and healing internal conflicts driving compulsive behaviors. * Building self-leadership and emotional balance. Ideal For: Individuals and couples addressing trauma, compulsive behaviors, or emotional disconnection.

Imago Therapy (IRT): Imago Relationship Therapy helps couples transform conflict into opportunities for healing and growth. It explores how early experiences shape relationship patterns, fostering deeper understanding and empathy between partners. Key Techniques: * Structured communication exercises to improve connection and mutual understanding. * Encouraging empathy and compassion by reinterpreting partner dynamics. * Facilitating discussions about changes that promote mutual growth. Ideal For: Couples, Families and anyone who wants to strengthen their connection, resolve recurring conflicts, and understand the unconscious influences shaping their relationship.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT): CBT focuses on identifying and reframing negative thought patterns to promote healthier behaviors and emotional well-being. Key Techniques: * Challenging and replacing distorted thoughts. * Using practical exercises to build empathy and understanding. * Addressing compulsive habits by replacing them with healthier behaviors. * Tackling impulse control challenges, such as gambling, Internet misuse or other behavioral compulsions, to reduce harmful habits. Ideal For: Individuals, couples, and families experiencing anxiety (Panic), depression, compulsive behaviors, or interpersonal challenges.

Each therapeutic modality is specific to your personal circumstances, and I often integrate multiple approaches to address your specific goals. If you are an individual seeking clarity, a couple working to reconnect, or a family navigating change, my approach is designed to support meaningful and lasting transformation.

Specific Issues I'm Skilled at Helping With:

  • Relationship Therapy for All Stages of Partnership
  • Infidelity Recovery Counseling
  • Therapy for Blended and Mixed Families
  • Behavioral Compulsions/Addictions in Relationships and in Individuals.
  • How to Overcome Anxiety and Panic attacks without medication

My Role as a Therapist:

As your therapist, my role is to provide a safe, supportive space where you can share openly without fear of judgment. I see therapy as a partnership: I bring professional training, tools, and evidence-based approaches, and you bring your life, your goals, and your willingness to grow. My work is to listen carefully, guide you in uncovering patterns that may be holding you back, and teach practical strategies that help you build resilience and healthier ways of relating to yourself and others. Beyond helping you through difficult moments, my role is also to challenge you when needed, motivate you toward lasting change, and give you insights and skills you can carry long after therapy ends

Additional Information About my Practice:

I work both in person as well as online. With couples I work predominetly with both partners and when appropriate and clinicaly warranted I will meet with Individuals within the relationship. Likewise with Behavioral Addictions I will see both the identified client as well as thier loved ones, together or seperately (if agreed upon by the identified client).

TREATMENT APPROACH

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is a form of psychotherapy that encourages individuals to accept their thoughts, feelings, and experiences without judgment and to use them as tools to help them to make changes in their lives that are consistent with their values. It is based on the idea that by changing the way we think about our inner experiences, we can reduce emotional distress and increase our sense of well-being.

Emotional Freedom TechniqueEmotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is an alternative therapy for emotional and physical distress. It is based on the idea that the cause of all negative emotions is a disruption in the body's energy system. EFT is a form of psychological acupressure, in which a combination of physical tapping and verbal affirmations are used to help the body release the emotional and physical distress.

Family Systems TherapyFamily Systems Therapy is an approach to psychotherapy that emphasizes the importance of understanding how the family functions as a whole, and how individual family members interact and affect one another. It focuses on how family dynamics, such as communication patterns, roles, and power dynamics, shape behavior, and how changing these dynamics can lead to positive change. Family Systems Therapy is a collaborative approach, where the therapist works with the family as a whole to identify and address areas of conflict and distress.

Gestalt TherapyGestalt therapy is an experiential, humanistic approach to psychotherapy that emphasizes personal responsibility, and that focuses on the individual's experience in the present moment. It explores an individual's emotions, behaviors, and thoughts, and how they may be influencing one another. It is rooted in the belief that people are responsible for their own experience, and that they can make conscious choices to improve their lives. The goal of gestalt therapy is to help individuals gain insight into their current experiences and to become aware of how their behaviors and thoughts shape their present reality.

Gottman MethodThe Gottman Method is an evidence-based approach to couples therapy that is designed to help couples strengthen their relationships and resolve conflicts. This method is based upon decades of research on thousands of couples and utilizes an approach that is both structured and collaborative. The method is designed to help couples increase respect, affection, and closeness, break through and resolve conflict, generate greater understanding, and to keep conflict discussions calm. It emphasizes the importance of self-regulation, constructive communication, and creating a safe environment for couples to talk and work through their issues. During sessions, couples work on skills such as active listening and expressing needs and feelings effectively. Couples are also given tools to identify and work through conflicts by using problem-solving techniques and developing strategies to manage emotions and reduce stress.

Imago Relationship Therapy (IRT)IRT focuses on helping couples identify and address their unconscious patterns of behavior that contribute to conflict and dissatisfaction in the relationship. IRT also emphasizes the importance of forgiveness and validation in healing past wounds and creating a more positive and fulfilling relationship. IRT helps couples develop communication skills and a deeper understanding of each other's needs and feelings.
Through Imago Therapy, couples will be able to explore their communication patterns, discover sources of conflict, and create new ways of connecting with each other that build empathy and understanding. The therapist will also work with the couple to create a vision for their relationship and set realistic goals for how to achieve it. This therapy helps couples to develop better communication, trust, and intimacy, as well as providing hope for the future of their relationship.

Internal Family Systems (IFS)Internal Family Systems (IFS) is an evidence-based psychotherapy that uses the metaphor of an internal family of parts to help people gain awareness of how different parts of themselves can interact in healthy and unhealthy ways. IFS encourages people to become curious about their different parts, with the goal of helping them gain access to their true Self or core. Through this process, people can learn to recognize and care for the different parts of themselves, as well as develop compassionate understanding for the origins of their parts. A key principle of IFS is that each part within the person has its own positive intention and is trying to protect the person in some way. By understanding the positive intention of each part, the practitioner and client can work together to help the parts feel heard and understood, and to find more adaptive ways of meeting their needs. IFS has been found to be an effective treatment for a variety of mental health issues, including depression, anxiety, trauma, and relationship issues.

Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT)Mindfulness-Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) is a form of therapy that combines cognitive behavioral therapy with mindfulness practices. It is based on the idea that our thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations can affect our mental health. MBCT helps individuals become aware of their thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations in order to gain insight and control over them. MBCT helps clients learn how to recognize their sense of being and see themselves as separate from their thoughts and moods. This separation can free the client from thought patterns in which the repeated negative messages may be dominating the client’s focus. After developing an awareness of the separation between thoughts, emotions, and the self, people in treatment may find that while the self and the emotions may exist simultaneously, they do not have to exist within the same dimension. The healing can take place when one learns how to interject positive thoughts into negative moods and thereby create a shift in mood.
